Godīs TV
There are three controls for the TV screen: brightness, contrast and color saturation. The corresponding controls can be found also in our heart. They have effects on our image of God.
Hearing and seeingHearing the
gospel of God can give us
faith.
"So then faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God." Ro.10:17 However a
faith is not a goal but a way to it. The
salvation is the goal and means that a
believer will be changed.
God changes us through inner seeing.
"The Lord is the Spirit; and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty. But we all, with unveiled face, beholding as in a mirror the glory of the Lord, are being transformed into the same image from glory to glory, just as by the Spirit of the Lord." 2Co.3:17-18 In the Bible there are talked about the mirror where we should see, not only ourselves but also the image of Jesus.
"For now we see in a mirror, dimly, but then face to face." 1Co.13:12 "For if anyone is a hearer of the word and not a doer, he is like a man observing his natural face in a mirror; for he observes himself, goes away, and immediately forgets what kind of man he was." Jas.1:23,24 If a hearer of God's word, when listening, sees only himself and doesn't see Jesus with his inner eyes, he will not become a doer of the word.
The inner seeing can be compared with watching TV. When a television set came to the home of my childhood, it was so rare on those days that our neighbors came to watch it, although there was not even any broadcast. I remember how they looked at the dark screen and laughed that they saw there something. Their own picture was reflected from the dark screen. Those who watch God's TV have the same empty experience, if they see only themselves in the
gospel and not Jesus.
The television
technology can be used as the parable of it how our heart sees God. The television picture has three controls: brightness, contrast and color saturation. Our image of God has the corresponding controls: The content of our
conscience is like the brightness, amount of knowledge of God is like the contrast and knowing of God's persons is like the color saturation.
Black-and-white pictureThe
spiritually blind are able to hear the voice of the heavenly broadcast in the
gospel. If we concentrate and listen to it, our inner eyes see Jesus black-and-white. His brightness lights up our
conscience. God's heavenly signal draws on the eyes of our soul the black-and-white picture about what is darkness and light or what is wrong and right. The picture can cause us to change our mind and to turn from darkness to light.
In a television set there is the brightness control with which the black level is adjusted. That means setting the point where is 100 % darkness. Accordingly our
conscience controls what is right and wrong. Jesus says in the Bible what is right and good and what is wrong and
sin. If we don't consider wrong that Jesus considers wrong, our adjustment is below the right level and our picture is dark. If we consider evil that Jesus considers good, our adjustment is above the right level and our picture is foggy.
Without light there is no picture. Jesus says that He is light:
"I am the light of the world. He who follows me shall not walk in darkness, but have the light of life." Joh.8:12 The human darkness of this world regards Jesus-light as darkness and its own darkness as light.
"The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness did not comprehend it." Joh.1:5 Jesus proves that God is light and people are darkness. God is totally good and all the people are
sinners.
"This is the message which we have heard from Him and declare to you, that God is light and in Him is no darkness at all." 1Jo.1:5 In that way darkness is considered light when people don't admit their
guilt. When they do wrong they say this is not wrong but right.
"Woe to those who call evil good, and good evil; who put darkness for light, and light for darkness." Isa.5:20 Is God's
goodness so well veiled that it is not noticed! Or is people's
evilness so well hidden that it cannot be found! The god of this world has made darkness into light by which he has blinded people from seeing the brightness of Jesus.
"Even if our gospel is veiled, it is veiled to those who are perishing, whose minds the god of this age has blinded, who do not believe, lest the light of the gospel of the glory of Christ, who is the image of God, should shine on them." 2Co.4:3-4 However some blind have received sight when they have turned to Jesus.
"It is God who commanded light to shine out of darkness, who has shone in our hearts to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ." 2Co.4:6 In the light of Jesus can be looked at what is unseen, which gives us
strength to endure in earthly troubles.
"Our light affliction, which is but for a moment, is working for us a far more exceeding and eternal weight of glory, while we do not look at the things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen. For the things which are seen are temporary, but the things which are not seen are eternal." 2Co.4:17-18 Picture's contrastIf the contrast of a television is zero the screen is totally black. If someone knows nothing about Jesus of the Bible he lives in darkness. If a television is watched in a dark room the picture is seeable even with a low contrast. If the TV is watched in the bright sunshine the contrast must be increased so that the picture would be discerned.
When someone comes to the
faith he needs so much contrast that the black level can be set. When a
believer has made progress in Jesus way, he is allowed to know Jesus more, which increases the volume of light that means more contrast. We are allowed to be transformed "from glory to glory" by the work of the
Holy Spirit. Jesus says to His:
"You are the light of the world. Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven." Mt.5:14, 16 When we receive more knowing Jesus also our neighbors will notice we have watched God's TV. The light of Jesus that shined into our heart is reflecting to our surroundings.
"It is God who works in you both to will and to do for His good pleasure. Do all things without complaining and disputing, that you may become blameless and harmless, children of God without fault in the midst of a crooked and perverse generation, among whom you shine as lights in the world, holding fast the word of life." Php.2:13-16 Picture's colorWhen we experience God's
love in the death of Jesus, it brings the color picture about God to our heart. In the same way as the television picture is formed of the mixture of three primary colors red, green and blue the color picture of God is formed of the unity of Jesus Christ, the
Holy Spirit and God the Father. The Spirit of God
testifies that Jesus is both true God and true man. If someone doesn't
believe this, the colors are missing in his image of God.
The color saturation control is at the right point when the skin color of face is natural. If the face is too fair the level is too low. If the face is glowing red the color control is above the right level. The color of the face of Jesus must remain natural for us. Above all we must see Him as such a person as He was when lived on earth, because we are predestinated to be transformed into His likeness.
If we are primarily watching Him as God and King sitting on the throne, we are in danger to
believe being already kings together with Him, although He has not yet His government on earth. Don't turn more color when God's channel shows you grey afflictions.
Look at Jesus as Man. In His words there is God the Father and in His actions there is the
Holy Spirit. Thus also you are transformed into His likeness. If you see Jesus to be only God you cannot follow Him. However don't set the color saturation too low level because then you consider Him too human and forget His faultlessness.
What ever deeds of God are shown in God's TV in everything there is the Father, the Son and the
Holy Spirit. Jesus is red like
blood, for in Him comes out the soul of God. God the Father is blue like sky, for He is above all. The Holy Spirit is green like plants, for He is God's life that is present everywhere.
In
pure white all the persons are equally present. Other colors are made by mixing the presences. Violet describes the relationship between the Father and Jesus. Yellow describes the relationship between the Father and the
Holy Spirit. Brown describes the relationship between Jesus and the Holy Spirit.
Inner eyes guide outer eyesOur natural eyes are seeking what our inner eyes are watching. On the other hand also our inner eyes can seek what our outer eyes have watched. Watching God's TV has an effect on what our natural eyes are seeking.
Everyone watches his
treasure in his thoughts. Our
dreams and targets are before our inner eyes. The inner eyes of everyone are seeking something. Where your treasure is, in that direction your inner eyes are watching.
If your
treasure is perishable its light is darkness compared with it, if Jesus is your treasure and you watch His brightness. If the eyes of your heart see carnal desires to be your treasure also your outer eyes are seeking targets accordingly.
If the eyes of our heart are watching God, we don't want to look at whatever and all that we look at, we see it in the light of God, which shines in our heart. God's light mortifies the effect of tempting objects, because in its light we recognize the filthiness of
sin or the real value of perishable things.
Watching God's TV puts to death our bad desires.
"Set your mind on things above, not on things on the earth. Therefore put to death your members which are on the earth: fornication, uncleanness, passion, evil desire and covetousness." Col.3:2,5 Let Jesus Christ receive all admiration and
worship of your heart. Thus your inner being is allowed to enjoy Him and to be
nourished with the brightness of His face.
So if only Jesus was always in our eyes.
