Star WarsBattle between good and evil is a popular subject in films. Star Wars is a movie, where this topic is handled in mighty scenes. It pronounces also religious message though it impresses mainly with its virtual world. The jedis of the film set fear as the source of evilness. They claim that fear causes hate, which again brings forth violence. They teach that hate doesn't captivate a man who conquers his fear. They say that in the microcosm of man's body there are very little beings, which give men the power of life. Those are accepted as jedis who have in their blood more than average of this life, whose wisdom and force they can learn to use through training. They are heroic figures, who greet each other by saying: "May the force be with you!"
The Jewish high priest asked Jesus: "I charge you under oath by the living God: Tell us if you are the Christ, the Son of God" Jesus replied:
"Yes, it is as you say, but I say to all of you; In the future you will see the Son of Man sitting at the right hand of Mighty One and coming on the clouds of heaven."
Matth.26:63-64 Jews thought that Jesus had spoken blasphemy and decided that He is worthy of death.
Jesus Christ is not a jedi, though He is the Son of Mighty One. He had the clean blood because God was His Father, but He was tempted in every way, just as we are, because His mother was one of this sinful generation. The film handles superficially the problem of evilness. On the other hand it raises hopes that there could live in man symbiotic forces of divinity, which could be taken in use.
Fear itself is not the phantom menace which we would have to win. God defines what is right and wrong. It is the dark menace for man that he falls in love with a matter, which is forbidden by God.
"Fear has to do with punishment."
1John.4:18 Everybody, who does wrong, fears that God punishes him. Hate and violence comes from a bad conscience. It is just through the fear of punishment how the evilness forces people. Many have tried to control their fear by denying that they are guilty. This film supports this kind of efforts when it advertises fear as the source of evilness.
Jesus came to free us of our guilt and of the fear that we have for it.
"Since the children have flesh and blood, He too shared in their humanity so that by His death He might destroy him who holds the power of death - that is, the devil - and free those who all their lives were held in slavery by their fear of death."
Heb.2:14 By fearing the punishment of God man easily falls into slavery of evilness. It is a vicious circle where a sin that was done causes fear, which leads to a new sin and this again makes fear deeper, and so on. If man receives Jesus as Saviour of his own sins, God's love, which appeared in the atonement work of Jesus, drives out fear of punishment. In this way the circle of sin and fear is broken in the power of the blood of Jesus, the Son of God.
In the film fighting against evil is mostly physical battles. Jesus expressly warns about this kind of fights when He says to Peter:
"Put your sword back in its place, for all who draw the sword will die by the sword."
Matth.26:52 No laser sword can defeat the power of evilness. The battle against evil takes place in the ideas of heart. When you face the power of ideas of a bad lust, take the true sword of light, the word of God.
"For the word of God is living and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart. Nothing in all creation is hidden from God's sight. Everything is uncovered and laid bare before the eyes of Him to whom we must give account."
Heb.12.13 Well, Star Wars is only a movie reflecting the dreams of mankind. The conquest of space is a dream that lives strongly in human minds. However it is not possible without the acceptance of God. He has told us that He will solve the problem of evilness on this earth. The sinful mankind is not allowed to pollute other planets. Not until after the second coming of Jesus mankind will have access to the new planet:
"Then I saw a new heaven and a new earth, for the first heaven and the first earth had passed away, and there was no longer any sea. I saw the Holy City, the new Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, prepared as a bride beautifully dressed for her husband. And I heard a loud voice from the throne saying, 'Now the dwelling of God is with men. They will be His people, and God Himself will be with them and be their God. He will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things has passed away.'"
Rev.21:1-4 Here is the realistic dream for you. You will experience it, if you believe in Jesus.
