Seeds of words
Words that we heard may grow in our hearts into thoughts. Often we suppose that our thoughts are our own ideas, and we don't notice that the seed, which is planted by someone, has germinated in us. The seed that germinated in you may be the seed that you will sow forward.
At first word then thoughtWhich game first, egg or hen? It is obvious that the hen was first, because God created it.
Which was first, word or thought? The answer is the same than in the case of the hen. At first man heard a word, and it gave a thought. Words are like seeds that bring forth thoughts, when their meanings open up. Jesus says:
"Man does not live on bread alone, but on every word that comes from the mouth of God." Matth.4:4 Jesus advises to aim at the hearing of God's speech.
"Therefore consider carefully how you listen." Luke.8:18 A read word can be left without hearing. Also a heard word can pass by the inner ear.
Life is not in the Bible but it is in Jesus Christ. He says to the Jews who adored the scriptures of the Bible:
"You have never heard God's voice nor seen his form, nor does his word dwell in you, for you do not believe the one He sent. You diligently study the Scriptures because you think that by them you posses eternal life. These are the Scriptures that testify about me, yet you refuse to come to me to have life." John.5:37-40 Although they read the Bible eagerly, they were deaf to God's voice. The same concerns many Christians. Everybody has sometimes experienced how a certain word that we heard affected us very strongly. Since that moment we started to live by that word knowingly or unknowingly. What we see and feel enchants us easily so that we don't notice the word which at the same moment is impressed on our heart. Often we forget the word that we heard although we start to think according to it. Therefore we may have the opinion that thought was first and then word. The seed-word moulders in our soul and in its place the world of ideas is grown like a plant.
Words are seedsWhen we say something, we shed seeds from the plant that once germinated in our soul. Our thoughts are the garden of our soul. Our deeds are its fruits. If your deeds are bad, you must break new ground in your garden of thoughts and sow a good seed.
"Break up your unploughed ground and do not sow among thorns... How long will you harbour wicked thoughts?" Jer.4:3,14 When the words of Jesus hurt the opinions of listeners, He said:
"Every plant that my heavenly Father has not planted will be pulled up by the roots." Matth.15:13 Spirit of a seedThe heard word that is impressed on our heart takes with it a spirit. When man receives the gospel of Jesus, he will get Holy Spirit.
"And you also were included in Christ when you heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation. Having believed, you were marked in Him with a seal, the promised Holy Spirit..." Eph.1:13 It is very important for you to become aware of the seed-words of your inner life, because only then you will have a real possibility to make a choice for the quality of your life. You can "return to your roots" and check the origin of your thoughts.
Everyone has believed some word and got the spirit of it. Devil sows his seed so secretly that you hardly notice when you had a share in his faith. God sows his seed in day light and doesn't secretly plot you to have a share in his faith.
