The craze of alcoholHe gulps down a drink stronger than himself giving away the reins of his life. Then he walks unsteadily like one year old baby. He messes like a child. He splutters foolishness like a feebleminded. He repeats the same story like a broken
music record. He blusters and brawls or flaps his gums and flatters. Uninhibitedly he carries out his
lusts and afterwards he excuses his deeds with the state of being
drunk. He gets courage to do that evil, which he doesn't dare to do when he is not drunken.
Alcohol is involved in many bad things: illnesses, accidents, assaults,
murders, adulteries,
divorces and mental disorders. He escapes a bleak life to a cloud of intoxication, but plumps down with a headache to even bleaker reality than before. If you are treated badly when you were
drunken, you have not any rights to complain to the Amnesty International, because you have voluntarily given away your human dignity.
If you got drunk you disgraced your humanity.A
drunken one is filthy and disgusting. The Bible describes a state of being drunk:
"Do not gaze at wine when it is red, when it sparkles in the cup, when it goes down smoothly! In the end it bites like a snake and poisons like a viper. Your eyes will see strange sights and your mind imagine confusing things. You will be like one sleeping on the high seas, lying on top of the rigging. 'They hit me', you will say, 'but I'm not hurt! They beat me, but I don't feel it! When will I wake up so I can find another drink?'" Prov.23:31-35 Alcohol has destroyed human life more than many
wars together. However public
opinion is favourable to drinking. Although the damages of smoking are smaller than drinking there are many campaigns and even
laws against smoking, but drinking is considered acceptable and a fine thing! When persons are discussing about events of their drinking
parties their cheerful utterances reveal a stupid attitude: "Their glory is in their shame."
Why
alcohol interests so many? Their life is very boring. They try to get good feelings with alcohol. However the real satisfaction of life comes from a
pure spirit, not from spirits. The presence of God's Spirit in my spirit gives me good feelings.
"Do not get drunk on wine, which leads to debauchery. Instead, be filled with the Spirit." Eph.5:18 . Spirits are the replacement of the spirituality.
God
created man to be a house of the
Holy Spirit. What kind of man is he, who "got drunk" on God's Spirit? He feels
loved by God and experiences a great
joy and
peace. He gets
supernatural and reliable
guidance in the steps of everyday life. He speaks fluently more intelligent things than he has ever been able to think in his mind. He feels sure of himself and speaks the word of God boldly, though he is normally shy. He is
unselfish and does good deeds that he would never be able to do without the power of the Spirit. He can even
heal ill persons and release them from evil spirits, because he is filled with the Holy Spirit.
So why are you content with a replacement which only ruins you? Look for God! If you search Him with all your heart, you will find.
